The series is based on the family-oriented sitcom La famiglia Addams (1964), but contains macabre elements from the then-released La famiglia Addams (1991): deadly family dances, sadomasochistic acts, an antagonist arguably as abnormal as the Addams (the underwear-obsessed Normanmeyer).
