Laura Dern appears in this film, the only entry in the sequel trilogy not to be directed by J.J. Abrams, who also directed the rebooted Star Trek. Her father, Bruce Dern, appeared in the film Scomodi omicidi (1996) as LAPD Chief W.H. Parker, the inspiration for Spock.
