The Royal Navy ship featured most in the movie is H.M.S. Bedford. In reality the last Royal Navy ship bearing that name was commissioned in 1901 and wrecked in 1910. The naming of the ship is possibly a nod to the 1965 film The Bedford Incident, about a fictitious naval incident causing a nuclear conflict. This somewhat echoes the narrative of Tomorrow Never Dies.
