During the show's fourth season (in December 2009), Nick Jr. president Brown Johnson stated that The Backyardigans would continue for "at least another five years." However, the series' creator Janice Burgess decided to end the show in 2010 so that she could move onto a different series: Nickelodeon's revival of Winx Club (2004). Burgess worked as a story editor, writer, and creative consultant for Winx Club before eventually retiring from Nickelodeon in 2014.
