Originally, Leia wasn't Luke's long-lost twin sibling. In the original draft of the script, it was revealed Luke had a twin sister called Lillith and that when they were separated and Luke got sent to live with Owen and Beru Lars on Tatooine, Lillith was taken to another galaxy and to be trained as a Jedi and the movie was to end with Luke going off to find Lillith. George Lucas changed it to Leia being Luke's twin sister.
