By 2021, enough real world extreme "once in a lifetime" meteorological and natural events had happened around the world, to have completely proved the lack of real science in the film. One of the most obvious ones is several countries had by the 2020s suffered tsunamis. The real tsunamis had huge destructive force, enough to destroy large buildings, and were relatively small, in terms of wave height, when compared to the gigantic tsunami featured in the film in which relatively fragile skyscrapers were able to survive unscathed.
