The original storyboarded opening was of the Mosasaurus following and attacking a pod of whales and eating one of them after it gets impaled by a spear from a whaling vessel and jumping over the vessel in the process, but the sequence was cut due to script revisions in pre-production, Screenwriter Colin Trevorrow intends to use the concept in the third Jurassic World movie.
