The scene near the end where Harold and Maude sit by the seashore wrapped in a blanket was filmed on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay on the Emeryville mud flats. The location was the site of an adhoc collection of sculptures made of found objects, including driftwood and scrap metal. The sculptures were begun in 1962, and were all removed in the interests of environmental protection in 1997, when the crescent of mud flats became part of Eastshore State Park. Highway 80/580 is visible in the background.
