Among the objects on the desk in Picard's ready room is a large, clear crystal. Picard often holds it, fidgeting or gesturing with it as he speaks. It is visible on his desk or in his hand in more than 70 episodes. Many fans have commented that they have watched the entire series multiple times without noticing the crystal. However once it has been pointed out, its presence is quite obvious. Some fans have taken the crystal as an example of the Mandela Effect - an event where numerous people share a common false memory, in this case the mistaken impression that the crystal wasn't there.
