Screenwriter Ring Lardner Jr. was the only person to win an Oscar for M*A*S*H (1970). In terms of the MASH franchise, the only actor associated with it (including the movie and the TV show) who won a competitive acting Oscar was Robert Duvall (for Un tenero ringraziamento (1983) from 1983), although Donald Sutherland was awarded an honorary Academy Award for his body of work in 2017, and at least a dozen actors associated with MASH have been nominated for Oscars; including Sally Kellerman for best supporting actress for this film and Pat Morita (who appeared on the TV show) for best supporting actor for The Karate Kid - Per vincere domani (1984). (They lost those awards to Helen Hayes for Airport (1970) and Haing S. Ngor for Urla del silenzio (1984), respectively). Another guest actor on the series, Ron Howard, did win an Oscar as best director of A Beautiful Mind (2001) and was nominated in that category again for Frost/Nixon - Il duello (2008).
