Hema Malini was a newcomer when she did this film. Her special appearance became as successful as Rajesh Khanna's in Andaz the same year, eclipsing the heroine Mumtaz. Vijay Anand had wanted to work with both Hema malini and Raakhee, who had arrived on the film scene around the same time. He signed Hema Malini to play the glam film star here and signed Raakhee for the more sober role in Blackmail.
