The character of Big Nose, played by Jenny Slate, received some criticism for playing into Jewish stereotypes. According to the film directors it was a reference to how white people are sometimes referred to as 'Big Nose' in Chinese culture, only to later realize how it could be misinterpreted. In response the filmmakers had the character's name changed to "Dog Mom" for the digital and home video releases.
