Manoj Kumar offered the film to Sharmila Tagore but she wanted to do the other role instead. What happened was a misunderstanding. Manoj Kumar'assistant narrated the wrong role to Sharmila. Had she heard the right role that Manoj Kumar wanted her for, she would have signed the film.
