February26, 2020: Heather Downham is the actress who played the stewardess who hands Dr. Heywood Floyd his writing pen, which appears to be floating in space. In a recent interview, Ms. Downham stated that on the day they shot the scene which was ultimately used in the film, she was "stoned" on pain medication for a toothache. She was not abusing them; however this caused her to walk in an odd, "drunken type" fashion, which was precisely what Kubrick found to his liking. She didn't mention it to Kubrick at the time (out of fear of losing the role). When she walks down the aisle, you can see how she has difficulty walking straight.
