The character of Officer Rigg (Lyriq Bent) was promoted from a supporting character in Saw II - La soluzione dell'enigma (2005) and Saw III - L'enigma senza fine (2006) to a main character in this film. Lyriq stated that there may have been plans to make him a central character in Saw III - L'enigma senza fine (2006) but, since he was busy filming a TV series at the time, the idea was used for this film instead.
