Although it is never explicitly mentioned, the planet LV-223, where most of the film's action is set, is the neighboring planet of LV-426 from Alien (1979). LV-233 and LV-426 are two of three planetoid moons orbiting the ringed gas giant Calpamos, which can be seen in Alien when the Nostromo homes in on the mysterious signal coming from the Derelict Ship, and sets down on one of the moons. Calpamos and its rings can be seen in the sky on several occasions in both Alien and Prometheus. LV-426 is also the planet where Hadley's Hope colony from Aliens - Scontro finale (1986) is founded several decades later. In Prometheus, Holloway's hologram of the system clearly shows Calpamos, LV-223 and a smaller planetoid, but LV-426 is strangely missing (it was possibly missed because it was behind Calpamos when the scan was made). In an early script for Prometheus, Calpamos was called 'Epsilon', and the action was to take place on LV-426 as well, but this was later changed to LV-223.
