In the prologue it's mentioned that the audience of the 1940s lived in a time of torment, crisis, sin, passion, thirst, desire (in Swedish: hets, kris, synd, lidelse, törst, begär) - this is a reference to six Swedish films of the 1940s: Spasimo (1944), Crisi (1946), Synd (1948), Lidelse (1945), Sete (1949), Begär (1946). The tagline on the theatrical poster also makes this reference.
