There are three changes from the original stage play that were taken from the 1978 movie in this production. The song "Hopelessly Devoted To You' was written specifically to give Olivia Newton-John a ballad, the lead song "Grease" was written especially for the movie and, in the original play the song "Greased Lightning" was sung by Kenicki, it was given to John Travolta (Danny) in the movie because he demanded it and used his clout to get it.
