Before this film, when he was considered a dramatic actor, Leslie Nielsen appeared in the film Il pianeta proibito (1956). Part of the premise; in which Nielsen plays the commander of a spacecraft exploring the galaxy, who frequently goes on away missions with his First Officer and the ship's doctor; were a major inspiration for Star Trek (1966). Nielsen's own character served as the inspiration for Cpt. James Kirk (William Shatner). Shatner appeared in the sequel, L'aereo più pazzo del mondo... sempre più pazzo (1982). Nielsen's next film with the Zucker brothers was Una pallottola spuntata (1988), which paired him with Ricardo Montalban, who had also appeared on Star Trek.
