Not only was this a return for Gene Tierney after a long break due to health issues, but also a reunion with Otto Preminger, who directed the actress in what will always be considered her most famous role (and perhaps his most famous film as well): the title character in the film noir classic, "Laura" (1944). The last time she had worked for Preminger was twelve years previously, on two other film noir movies released in 1950: "Where The Sidewalk Ends" and "Whirlpool."
