There are several Easter eggs to the upcoming movies in the dark universe such as the Creature From the Black Lagoon's hand and vampire skull at Dr Jekyll's headquarters, and the Book of the Dead in his office, which made its appearance in La mummia (1999) and La mummia - Il ritorno (2001). None of these films were ever made after The Mummy flopped at the box office.
