A final film in the trilogy, Shanghai Seas, was written by British writing team Tom Butler, Andy Fanton & Stu Munro. The swashbuckling high-seas pirate adventure was cancelled during pre-production, when Disney announced Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 & 3. The writing team said they would not write another script until Shanghai Seas was produced and, as of 2022, they have kept their promise.
