This film bears several similarities to The Land Before Time (1988). In Land Before Time, there's a chase through a gorge that ends in the death of a parent, the child then cuddles against the dead body of his parent in the gorge, the parent visits their child in the clouds, and the character Rooter even refers to 'the great circle of life'.
