It is repeatedly stated that a person should not dive and fly on the same day. Actually, after a single non-compression dive it's OK to fly at high altitudes within 12 hours. For multiple non-compression dives or a series of them over several days in a row, an18-hour wait is recommended. For compression dives - those that require pauses for decompression on the way up - a 24 hour wait is recommended. For small plane flights--those that reach no more than a couple of thousand feet,--a two-hour wait is recommended. However, in an era before everyone had a computer in their pocket, it was best to just remember the max for safety.
