Jojo Rabbit (2019) shares similar traits with La caduta - Gli ultimi giorni di Hitler (2004), an earlier movie about the fall of the Third Reich with Berlin as the backdrop. Both films end with a young German boy surviving the war with an older, but still young, woman. In both films, the boys are left orphaned when their parent(s) is (are) hung by fanatics, perhaps Gestapo hardliners. However, in Jojo Rabbit, the surviving woman is Jewish whereas in Downfall, the surviving female was an ardent fanatic of Hitler. In both films, the boy and woman are left with the dangling question of what will happen next.
