Before the film even began shooting, it faced a delay because Idris Elba came down with Covid-19. As director Jeymes Samuel had been conversing with Elba for many years about the project, he refused to even contemplate recasting the part until his star had recovered. Of course, by then, the entire world had effectively gone into shutdown because of the pandemic.
