The reason behind Arul Mozhi Varman being invited to take the Lankan throne by Buddhist monks is not explained in detail in the movie. The reason for the monks to do is his policy of religious freedom. Though a practicing Sivait, he equally respected all other religions of that time and learnt the teachings. The four major religions are that were Saivism (Ones who worshipped Shiva), Vaishnavism (one who worshipped Vishnu), Samanam (Jainism), boudha madham (Buddhism).
