Jaume Collet-Serra was considered to direct if Mel Gibson didn't take the helm. Collet-Serra would drop out of contention however to direct Jungle Cruise (2021) instead. Ironically, Collet-Serra also found another superhero project in Black Adam (2022) in which he'll take the helm.
