When this movie was first released, many moviegoers thought that the final scene showed the double wedding of Marianne and Colonel Brandon, and Edward and Elinor. However, Edward and Elinor are already married at this point. He was the wedding officiant, and Elinor was Marianne's Matron of Honor.
