James Cameron wanted Mauro Fiore to photograph this film because he admired Fiore's lush jungle photography in L'ultima alba (2003). Fiore agreed after a 30-minute meeting with Cameron, followed by a two-hour guided tour of the constructed sets with Jon Landau.
