In the era of the late 1970's when "Fame" was written, the portrayal of drug abuse involved in the main story of Ralph Garcy's comedy career and it's relation to not only the rise and fall of the character but to the real-life tragedy and drug abuse of his idol Freddie Prinze, there is a mention of "Quaaludes", a highly addictive narcotic whose popularity at that time was at it's height, but is banned today and mostly forgotten. It's cultural cachet in the 1970's was related to it's soporific effects in terms of facilitating or aiding sexual seduction; taken in pill form and often nicknamed "disco biscuits" or "thigh openers".
