About two minutes into the show, Obi-Wan Kenobi is described as "a gentle, perfect knight". This was probably taken from the prologue of the Canterbury Tales, line 72: a "parfit gentil knyght" (a "perfect, gentle knight"), which is part of the description of one of the pilgrims . But in Chaucer's day, the primary meaning of "gentle" was "of noble character" or "belonging to a family of high social station". Now the primary meaning is behavior without harshness or physical force, which is what a "gentle" person would've exhibited.
