Despite having callsigns as pilots ("Avenger" for Carol and "Photon" for Maria Rambeau), the two never use them while conversing during the flashbacks, neither does Wendy Lawson/Mar-Vell while she was with Carol. It is customary for USAF and Navy pilots to use their callsigns instead of their birth names in every conversation until they leave the force.
