Shailene Woodley turned down the role of Carrie White, while Haley Bennett, Emily Browning, Lily Collins, Bella Heathcote, and Dakota Fanning auditioned. Hailee Steinfeld was considered for the role as well. Bennett was the runner-up to play Carrie, coming in second to Moretz, who won the role.
