Perhaps because his father Rance Howard was a well-known western actor, and because he was known for innocent Americana with a nostalgic or country western bent; starring in either nostalgia shows like Happy Days or country-western type shows like Andy Griffith show; Ron Howard starred in many country and western themed movies during this period; like The Shootist, Spike's Gang, The Wild Country and Huckleberry Finn; among other projects. Once he became a director he mostly abandoned this genre; with Far and Away being his only western opus to date.
