The character Billy (Dacre Montgomery) was originally how the Duffer Brothers (Matt Duffer & Ross Duffer) envisioned Steve, but Joe Keery's influence drastically changed the character's arc. After Steve's redemption at the end of season 1, Billy was introduced to give the show a human villain.
