During a meeting with the executives and the showrunners, director Kat Coiro suggested Patty Guggenheim, with whom she had worked before in other projects, for the part of Madisynn. Although they were not familiar with her, they agreed to invite her to an audition. Guggenheim showed up, and improvised a scene, with her cat, and the executives and showrunners loved her performance so much that she landed the part on the spot.
