James Horner was contacted to compose the music for this movie, but he was unavailable because of a schedule conflict. The task ultimately went to John Williams, who had worked with director Chris Columbus on Mamma, ho perso l'aereo (1990), Mamma, ho riperso l'aereo: Mi sono smarrito a New York (1992) and Nemiche amiche (1998). Both Williams and Horner would compete for the Oscar for Best Original Score in 2002; Williams for this film and A.I. - Intelligenza artificiale (2001), and Horner for A Beautiful Mind (2001).
