In the storyline about Megatron working with Sentinel there was no way to prove what year in Earth times the Cybertron war took place, perhaps the Ark left after Megatron's departure as they were meant to rendezvous on Earth, Megatron crash landed in the Arctic 30 years before Ark crash landed on Earth perhaps the "autopilot" set course for Earth but since Ark was hit it's possible the fuel or engine components died before landing on Earth. Quite possible since Megatron was out of commission Starscream etc gathered the pillars in early 1960s & found a dead Sentinel knowing their plan failed. In Transformers 1 Megatron wanted the Cube to transform Earth technology to be a Decepticon army as his Plan B, as he couldn't revive Sentinel obviously figuring out he was dead. Plan C was the Fallen's plan & Matrix of Leadership to destroy Earth. Once Optimus had the Matrix he figured he has to set a trap so Optimus can revive Sentinel & re-open the original plan
