In the opening scene where Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) searches for Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), the latter tells him that "the Force is the pathway to many abilities that some consider to be unnatural." This is the exact same thing that Palpatine said to Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episodio III - La vendetta dei Sith (2005), where he referred to an ancient Sith technique used by Darth Plagueis, which uses the Force to prolong one's own life or possibly that of others, hinting at how it may have played a role in Palpatine's resurrection. Some fans speculate that Darth Sidious won and cheated death again at the end, this time by possessing Rey's body, a power he stated to be able to do if Rey killed him, which she technically did.
