The multiple Neos seen on the monitors during the Architect sequence are not his predecessors (previous incarnations of the One) whose reactions were taped during their visit to the Source, as may be thought. According to the shooting script, they represent Neo's different possible choices of answers, with the camera tracking in on the actual outcome. It ties into the Architect's explanation of free choice being essential to humans, which is a theme that reverberates through this movie and Matrix Revolutions (2003), and is a concept that the machines struggle to understand, as they live by causality.
