The character of Matt Wilson, played by Greg Benson, did not receive an on-screen exit when he left the series in 1991, leading fans to speculate that he was locked in the storeroom at The Bayside Diner. Matt made a guest appearance in 2002, finally proving the character had not been locked away. Similarly, the character of Rob Storey simply disappeared without explanation in 1995, despite having purchased one of the show's most frequently used locations (the local boat shed).
