Director Denis Villeneuve experienced immense pressure to do this sequel right, especially when executive producer Sir Ridley Scott (who also directed Blade Runner (1982)) was on-set. Scott's presence became nearly unbearable when it was time to direct Harrison Ford, so Villeneuve finally asked Scott how he would feel if his favorite director, Ingmar Bergman, was looking over his shoulder while directing. Scott had a good laugh over it, but understood and left the set. Villeneuve later credited Scott with leaving him alone for most of the shoot, and giving him full freedom to direct this movie as he pleased, only offering advice when Villeneuve asked for it.
