Seraph states that he protects which matters most. His character is likely an metaphor for computer firewalls hinted by his name Seraph, which is a shortened version of seraphim, a type of flaming or passionate angel. This fits the religious and techno allegory of the franchise; it also fits the Alice in Wonderland motif since before meeting the Caterpillar (the Oracle) the animals on Wonderland gawk at Alice for being huge and throw cakes at her to keep her away similar to Seraph fighting Neo to keep Neo at bay.
