Regarding Star Trek: The Next Generation: Skin Of Evil (1988): Tasha Yar was the first regular Star Trek character to be permanently killed off. This is in line with Star Trek (1966), which had developed a reputation for killing off Enterprise security officers during the course of an away mission.
