There are a number of discussions throughout the franchise regarding appearance and behavior being different from more recent scientific evidence. Though the stories are fictional, there are also theories in both the books and films that could explain atypical appearance and behavior. The book Lost World mentions 2 reasons the predators are more aggressive 1. they were engineered and thus lack any training from adults of their species and 2. regarding those on Isla Sorna, an early infection spread through the animals and caused an imbalance between carnivores and herbivores. The Jurassic World films reiterate the lack of socialization theory as well as echoing Dr. Grant's assertion in this film that, because they were engineered, they aren't real dinosaurs. The DNA added to fill in sequence gaps would likely alter a number of traits, especially considering how little difference there is in DNA sequences between various animals. Crichton actually did follow the science of the time, but Hollywood changed some things, and of course, the science has continued to evolve.
