In this movie, based on a novel written by Delia Owens, a main character is accused of having committed a mysterious murder. Shortly after this movie was released, Zambian officials announced that they want to question Delia Owens and her ex-husband, Mark, about the 1995 shooting death of a suspected poacher during an anti-poaching patrol, part of a conservation project run by the Owenses. In a 2022 Atlantic article about the poacher's death, Jeffrey Goldberg reports that Zambia's legal officials assure him that the case is still open. "There is no statute of limitations on murder in Zambia," the country's director of public prosecutions, Lillian Shawa-Siyuni, told Goldberg. "They are all wanted for questioning in this case, including Delia Owens."
