Throughout the series, suspects in the cases make jokes at Detective Lilly Rush's expense about her being bleached blonde, as well as a character referring to her as Homicide Barbie. Actress Kathryn Morris, who played the role of Lilly, is not in fact a natural light blonde in real life, and after her role on Cold Case ended when the series was canceled, the actress began appearing in film and television roles with a more honey-blonde color of hair.
