Many fans of the show believe this series' main character Patrick Jane to be inspired by the fictional character of Sherlock Holmes. Jane can read a crime scene with his observation skills and uses his team as his own version of John Watson/Inspector Lestrade and has an enemy with Red John being Patrick's own version of Professor James Moriarty. Other fictional 21st Century Detectives inspired by Sherlock Holmes are: Dr. Gil Grissom and D.B. Russell, from CSI - Scena del crimine (2000).Detective Robert Goren from Criminal Intent (2001).Adrian Monk from Detective Monk (2002).Shawn Spencer from Psych (2006).Also, even though he doesn't use his detective skills to solve crimes, Medical Doctor Gregory House from Dr. House - Medical Division (2004), uses Sherlock Holme's investigative technique to diagnose medical diseases.
