The casting of Shana came under controversy because the character in the animated show was African American while the actress, Aurora Perrineau, is a light skinned biracial, having a black father and a white mother. Her father, Harold Perrineau, came to her defense on the controversy, saying that it's more offensive to say his daughter isn't "black enough" to play the character.
